gotta love the holidays......
it's a time for us to get in the car and explore a bit further afield
than we would normally be able to and this holiday was no exception......
we had planned for our first week to be 'at home' and had booked the
children into a surf school for their first taste of proper surfing.....
it was such a lot of fun and they both thoroughly enjoyed the time
spent out on the waves......
it's definitely something they want to do again.......
the summer holidays aren't too far away so
maybe a second surf school would be a good idea......
the second week of the holidays was a road trip week.....
day one
a quick stop at the Pinnacles.....
and a little wander among the stone pillars.....
it was super hot though so we didn't spend too long wandering around
but just enjoyed the beautiful {and slightly alien} landscape....
we stopped at Cervantes for our lunch
and found a lovely spot on the sea front where
we could admire the view and eat our picnic....
we continued on our way and ended in Jurien Bay
where we stayed the night before setting off on day two......
destination - Kalbarri......
during our afternoon drive we passed the Pink Lake.....
so beautifully pink...... quite unreal actually.......
like a big strawberry milkshake.....
we arrived in Kalbarri at the end of our second day driving
and, as there was still a lot of the day left, we decided to go for
a bit of a drive and ended up at Eagle Gorge where we did a little
bit of exploring......
which ended {as it usually does} with Evie
getting completely submerged in the water.....
day three......
began in Kalbarri and our destination was Denham.....
this was where we were going to stay for a few days
and from where we had plans to visit Monkey Mia.....
we stopped for a little cool off at
Shell Beach which was amazingly beautiful.....
but absolutely agony to walk on - all those millions
of tiny shells don't half dig into the soles of your feet!!
we arrived in Denham in the early afternoon and enjoyed
a BBQ on the balcony of our holiday cabin......
not too shabby a view, even if I do say so myself.....
sunset on that first evening was a
truly delightful affair....
our first trip to Monkey Mia was early the next morning
to watch the dolphins being hand fed.....
this was very much like when we visited Tin Can Bay
on our east coast road trip a couple of years before......
except there was opportunity for just a couple of
people to feed the dolphins this time so we contented ourselves
with just being spectators.......
after lunch we visited a small local lagoon......
it was beautiful but oh my, it was windy!!
I tried to put up our beach shelter but it just kept
getting blown away so I gave up in the end
and resigned myself to getting sand blasted.....
on day two we took a cruise from Monkey Mia
out to a pearl farm in the bay and on the way we were introduced
to some of the local wildlife.....
sea turtles.....
dugongs.....
more friendly dolphins.....
and, of course, there is always a bit of time
for a spot of boom netting.....
we had a final day of relaxing at Monkey Mia and I have to say
that it was just the most incredible and beautiful place.....
warm, crystal clear water......
pods of friendly dolphins cruising past in the
shallow waters.....
and precious time spent with precious people.....
what's not to love......
and so ended another great Oz road trip adventure.....
