doesn't just the name make you want to take a trip and visit?
we had a little jaunt last week for a few days to this lovely
seaside town on the south coast of Victoria and it was very beautiful.....
the weather was so-so......
some grey weather but also some glorious sunshine.....
and my two don't care what the weather is like if there is
a beach to enjoy and an ocean to play in!!
I took lots of photos so thought I would share a few with you......
let's begin with the boats all moored up along the river Moyne in Port Fairy itself.....
the house we were staying in was near the town of Yambuk a few
miles from Port Fairy and this was our view from the sunroom window.....
needless to say, we spent most of our time sitting in the sunroom just enjoying this view....
the first day we were there was a bit grey and overcast but,
as I said, the children just got on with enjoying the frigid water.....
Evie jumping the waves.......
she couldn't wait for Brian to fetch the swim gear,
she just got down to her knickers and top and started enjoying herself......
after the swim wear arrived Isaac and Evie both took their body boards out
and proceeded to 'get serious' with the waves.....
this was as far as Brian ventured.......
he had his board shorts on incase of an emergency but stood at the
edge of the water with his jumper and fleece on....
the second day was still a little chilly but the rock pools at Pea Soup
(yes that is the real name of the place.......)
provided some fun exploring.....
back at the cottage there were friends to be made.......
with the cows......
and games of pyjama cricket to be had......
and did I mention the morning teas?
oh my, we tried a new cafe each day but this was our favourite......
Bella Claire ..... scrum-diddly-umptious.......
the last day was glorious and we took a long, leisurely stroll around Griffith Island
which is home to Port Fairy lighthouse......
of course as soon as we came across a beautiful little cove where
the breakwater meant that the water was as calm as calm could be
(on the other side of the breakwater there were enormous waves breaking constantly),
Evie first started by paddling.......
then got down to her knickers and shirt.....
and before you could say 'bob's your uncle', she was stripped off and diving into the water.....
which, although the day was beautiful, was still frigid.....
this was our destination.....
Port Fairy Lighthouse.....
we went to the beach again in the evening, as the sun was setting, for a final swim.....
and a bit of beach art.....
this was Evie's composition......
'girl with the seaweed hair'
of course, being our final evening, and considering that
we had to get nice and warm after all that swimming,
we treated ourselves to some fish and chips for dinner.....
yum, yum......
*of course, when I say 'we' with reference to the word 'swimming'
I use it in the royal sense......
I didn't even take my swimming costume with me......
Brian gets to be lifeguard..... and me?
well I took my travel book and did some drawing and painting....
much more civilised.....
