I can't believe I haven't posted on here in over a month.....
SHOCKING.....
I was going to post photos of our holiday to Brisbane ages ago
and then I got waylaid and.....
well, no excuses really.......
anyway, tonight I shall make that right and bore you with some piccies......
hold on to your hat.........
first up, the Natural Bridge in Springbrook National Park.....
there is a lovely walk to this site through the rainforest
where you can also see some ENORMOUS strangler figs....
amazing......
if you visit the cave at night you even get the pleasure of seeing
the ceiliing lit up with thousands of glow worms.......
next up was a day at Australia Zoo.....
this was Evie's choice and she was not disappointed with our visit here......
she got to pet koalas
{who seemed singularly unimpressed by her attention,
and stayed sound asleep in the tree}.......
she ALWAYS has to stop and have a chat to the kangaroos.......
this one was in the mood to listen too........
she handfed one of the elephants......
and came away with a very slobbery hand.....
we watched some very bonkers people handfeed an
ENORMOUS crocodile
who made me jump just by clunking his teeth together.......
{I did wonder if he had cunning plans and clever tricks up
his sleeve for getting hold of one of them......}
here he is doing a 'death roll'......
fortunately it was just a leg of ham in his jaws, not a poor, unsuspecting bystander......
and, of course, there was the opportunity to visit the petting zoo and feed the goats......
phew..... and so ended our day at the Zoo......
we drove into the city of Brisbane itself one day
and spent a relaxing couple of hours at the South Bank
enjoying the manmade beach at the edge of the river
{above the palm trees you can see the city skyline}.......
having a rather nice morning tea
{can you spy the remnants of a rather delicious
chocolate cake in the background?}.......
strolling along the riverside.....
and enjoying the mangroves......
Evie was fascinated, but also a little disgusted,
by the roots that poked up out of the mud.......
and was spellbound by the tiny crabs that kept scurrying up and down the holes......
there was a trip to Tambourine Mountain where the kids and
I donned fetching blue boiler suits
{no need to guess why I am not going to post a photo of me here}
and did a tree top adventure course........
it was exhausting and we all left with 'jelly' arms and legs......
but the flying foxes were a favourite it has to be said......
and so we come to my favourite day of the whole holiday......
a cruise to Moreton Island......
we set off nice and early one morning and drove a couple of hours north
to meet up with our boat, crew and fellow 'trippers' for the day.....
we spotted a number of pods of wild dolphins and a few of them
tracked our boat as we cruised out into the bay......
when we reached the water near the island the boom net
was put out at the back of the boat and anyone who wanted to
jumped on to be pulled behind the boat......
there was then the chance to take it up a notch,
so the kids and Brian sat up nearer the boat and
they revved the engines up a bit......
then a bit more......
til the people on the boom net were nearly engulfed by the 'foamy stuff'......
they loved it and begged for more......
this is where we were headed......
and there was the invitation to walk up the sand dune on the right in this picture.....
it was mighty steep and I have to admit to only making it half way up.....
{you can see a 4WD vehicle on the beach at the bottom if your eyes are very good.....
as there are no roads on Moreton Island this is effectively the highway with a 30kmph speed limit}
t
the views were beautiful.......
it was one of those 'picture perfect' days......
Isaac came down the dune on his belly......
he's the one on the left.....
Evie did a bit of belly and a bit of bum......
I enjoyed swimming in the warm water and found some beautiful starfish along the shore.......
the final activity of the day before our return was to
snorkel around the Tangalooma Wrecks......
we got to spend some time hand feeding the tropical fish who live in
and around the coral that has grown on the wrecks.......
definately a highlight for the kids......
{although it is very hard to tell, that is Isaac pretty much dead centre in this photo.......
with his head up out of the water.....
but only for a moment........}
we spotted stingrays and even a wobbegong shark......
but only because our guide was fantastic and knew what he was looking for....
I was so busy trying to get the hang of breathing in and out through
the snorkel I would have missed everything without him.......
and so, we come to the end of our picture show.....
if you stuck with me through that then 'well done'......
it's a bit of a mammoth roll isn't it?
now, we only have 3 weeks until our next big trip......
we're jetting off 'up north' for Christmas and New Year
and are very excited about it all.....
it's been almost two and a half years since we have seen
some of our friends and family so there will be plenty of catching up to do.....
chatting, drinking coffee, eating cake....
that sort of thing.....
