summer {in January} surf school.....

today was day two of surf school for this summer.....
the weather was a bit more tricky than on day one yesterday......
the wind was coming from the  south,
which brings with it a lovely cool breeze for which I am very grateful,
but also means that the ocean was a bit 'choppy' and that can make it a bit
harder for the learner surfers to get up, and stay up, on their boards.....
it was also a lot harder work physically because they were battling
quite a strong drifting current....

but it doesn't seem to matter to my two -
they both so look forward to their surf school lesson.....

here is Isaac getting straight to it......
pushing up ready to catch his first wave of the day.....

and so begins the morning......

the coaches are great..... they watch as the kids ride the waves
then they spend time giving feedback about their technique.....
they also tell them what to look out for in a wave
and encourage them to wait......
good surfing waves sometimes take time to come along.....

they also spend time waiting with the kids
showing them how to spot a wave with good potential......

the coach talking to Evie in the photo below comes from Ireland
and only arrived in Perth a week ago.....
she was telling Evie that she's been teaching surfing in Ireland for the past 6 years
and it's exactly the same as teaching surfing in Perth - except she isn't cold all the time......
no surprise there......

Evie getting some more tips from the coach....

and she's off......

and she's getting up...... go girl......

and she rides the wave in..... whoop, whoop......

and when they've ridden the wave as far as it will take them
 {or they fall off the board - whichever comes first}
they paddle back out and wait for the next wave......

here's a little sequence of photos of Isaac.....

he really has taken to surfing like a duck to water.....
and for a guy who freely admits that he hates any form of physical exercise
it has been amazing to watch him get really enthused by this sport.....

the above sequence was Isaac's last ride of the day
and he made sure he saved the best til last.....

endings and beginnings......
