Superheroes

In Isaac's class this term they have been using the theme of Superheroes to focus their work around. Some really fun stuff has been coming home for us to work on and this week (as it is the last week for this term) they are having a superhero dress up day and party lunch. Isaac decided that he would like to dress up as ...... Jesus! (good on 'im I say) but then he changed his mind and decided that Captain Marvel would be a better choice. So I, with my limited sewing skills, am now trying to fashion a Captain Marvel outfit out of a pair of op shop ladies trousers, a red t-shirt and half a metre of gold satin!! He will also have the obligatory white cape (Dot bought a huge amount of white cotton from the op shop a couple of weeks ago so there is no shortage of that!) I'll post a photo when we get to THE BIG DAY ITSELF.... until then here is a photo of the real thing....

Within our first week of living in Australia, Brian had been taken to a 'footie' dinner (Aussie Rules Football NOT soccer!) and had, by pure fluke, won the footie quiz (he knows NOTHING about Aussie Rules) the prize of which was a weekend break in Hobart! So off we went last weekend to enjoy time together, leaving the children in the very capable hands of Auntie Dottie (they couldn't wait for us to go because we all know what life is like when your auntie looks after you!!)



We had a fabby time with the only downside being that there were so many things we wanted to see and only a weekend there so we had to limit ourselves. We took advice from people who have been to Hobart and decided on three places.... Salamanca Market on Saturday morning, Port Arthur on Saturday afternoon and Mount Wellington on Sunday morning before our flight home. We managed to fit in fish and chips sitting on the harbour wall on Friday night too so that was a bit of a brucey-bonus.

Hobart and surrounds is beautiful, reminding us of home (especially the Lake District with all those mountains, hills and water!) and was in such stark contrast to where we are living in Ballarat which is very brown and flat. We will definately try and make it over there again during our time here in Australia and will probably take the ferry next time so we can drive through the country and see so much more of what this delightful place has to offer.

Where does the time go?

My sister has been here nearly TWO WEEKS now! What great fun we are having... head on over to my creative blog if you want to see the fruits of my labours! As for family fun we have been to Widow Twankey's confectionery emporium (again), the Grampian Mountains, the Stitches and Craft show in Melbourne (lots of lovely eye candy there!) and Brian and I just got back from a weekend in Hobart, Tasmania..... beautiful! More on that later!!

Nearly here....

my sisters' visit that is! We're all getting very excited as it's only 3 more sleeps until she arrives. I enjoy the ease with which we can communicate from opposite sides of the globe with the phone, skype, email etc. but it just isn't the same as sitting down on the sofa with a good cup of coffee together and chatting, or going out and finding some treasure in a local store or op shop, or even working together in a creative space, often in silence, but always with an ease that comes from being good friends as well as sisters. There are lots of projects I have jotted down for us to do and lots of places for us to visit including the Stitches and Craft show in Melbourne..... sounds like a fun day out!

So, not long now...... yipee!
