Final things.....
Today was Evie's final strings concert for the year. It was fun to see just how much the grade 2's had learned this year during their string lessons and how much fun they had playing together.
Evie has decided though that the violin is not the instrument for her long term and she would like to have a go at the flute!! We also have the option of piano next year too and as long as she is having fun and learning music I really don't mind which instrument she chooses .... well, maybe I have one or two caveats.....

End-of-term-itis is setting in....
With only 3 weeks to go until the end of the school year there are lots of fun things to do and look forward to.
Tonight was the Junior School social and my two were both very excited about it.... being that it was the first time either of them had been to anything like this!!
Evie was desperate to wear something on her lips (I think the bit of lipstick she was allowed to wear for the school production gave her a taste for shiny lips!!) and so this afternoon I went out and bought her some lip gloss (I can't tell you how many years it is since I did that..... maybe 25!!)
Her reaction to the little gift was precious.... she so appreciates the little things in life which makes giving to her such a joy.
Anyway, here she is all ready to go out and enjoy herself!! (with hand on hip don't you know!!)

It's show time......
Every year the entire Junior School (all 350ish of them) put on a show which is written, directed, produced etc. by the staff who work in the JS.
It's always a sell out and every child gets a 'front line' spot at some point so that their parents, grannies, aunties or other special people can 'ooh' and 'ahh' over how lovely they look!
It is also a time for the grade 6 classes to shine, taking all the
lead roles, before they make the jump to the senior school.
Thursday was 'show day' and ALL the children were VERY excited.
Grade 2 (Evie's class) were to be Mexican girls and boys and we were given a costume list for things they needed. The peasant blouse was an easy make, the necklace came from the op shop and I crocheted the flower in her hair. She even got to wear earings, eyeshadow and lip gloss which was definitely the highlight for her!
Isaac'c class were the pizza boys and girls and he needed only a pair of 'breeches' (another op-shop purchase!) to complete the costume provided by the art department.
I spent a few afternoons helping out in the sewing department making skirts, waistbands and aprons which meant that all the children were suitably attired for their part.
Brian and I went to see the evening performance and I have to say that it was fantastic. The grade 6 classes did a brilliant job with their parts and all the lower grades sang their hearts out, including the preps who did a cute Flintstones number!!
My two came home buzzing with excitement from having been 'on stage' - it will definitely be an experience they will never forget!

Things we like....
ice cold homemade chocolate milkshakes..... with straws for slurping and blowing more bubbles (just the kids of course, I would never dream of blowing more bubbles into my chocolate milkshake!)
Just the thing for sipping on the back porch in the hot weather.... YUM!
