Evie's first concert....

 

Isn't it just great how you can sit in a crowd of people you don't know and listen to a group of 5-8 year olds playing the recorder, violin, piano and harp and yet you only have eyes and ears for one of them? Didn't hear one wrong note either......

Mummy day....

I do love mothers day.... it gives me just the right excuse to say 'no, I'm not going to do that today because it's mothers day' or 'I'm definately going to do that because it's mothers day'!

Generally the things that fall into the 'no' senario are; washing (of the clothing variety not the personal ablution variety!), ironing, cleaning of any kind, cooking, tidying, doing any kind of exercise (not that I do any at any other time of the year you understand, but I have a reason to say no on mothers day) and anything else I don't really enjoy.

The 'yes' senario would include, but not be limited to, sitting on my bum drinking coffee, eating cake and any chocolates that the children may have bought me (mothers day usually involves some kind of chocolate even if it is because the children like it and know that I will share some with them!!), playing in the craft room, reading my latest book, eating more cake and chocolate, enjoying doing any of the above while Brian beavers away in the kitchen cooking the dinner (it was roast today.... yum!)

This year I was blessed yet again with a collection of beautiful gifts from the children:

These organza bags are full of bath crystals which Isaac made at school in his after school cookery class! I never take a bath usually, but I will have to make a special effort now so that I can come out with a slightly pink (or blue, depending on what variety I choose) tinged skin tone

Isaac also bought me this beautiful bracelet from the mission table at church...

And not to be disappointed I received a bag of sweets and chocolates from Isaac and a tray of chocolate caramel snows from Evie (can you see that a few of the caramel chocolate snows are missing...... I haven't had one yet..... I wonder where they went to??)


I also received a handmade card from Isaac and a poem that Evie had written all about love..... I do love being a mum, it's the best job in the world!

I'm an employee.....

I can't really explain how it happened (it sort of just crept up on me!) but I spent a few hours in school today being congratulated on joining the Junior School team and being briefed about my role as an integration aide (learning support assistant in the UK). I will be working very part time (6 hours a week initially) fitting around the childminding that I already do.

I have to say that if I could choose anywhere to work, the Junior school would be very high on my list.... a bunch of friendlier people you couldn't wish to meet and all so dedicated to the children in their care. Lovely! I'll let you know how I get on....

Poorly girl.....

Evie has been poorly for a couple of days and because she is usually such a robust little thing it's a bit of a shock to the system when she is ill. Today she has felt a bit better and spent most of the day making Hama bead creations..... Christmas tree charms and tea cup coasters.... which she is going into production with her friend next door in order to raise money for the poor.

Museum visiting....

We decided to take a trip into Melbourne to visit the museum as the kids had raved on about it since their trip there with Uncy Neil a few weeks back. What a fabby museum this is.....! Lots to see, lots to do, kept the kids and the oldies amused for hours! There are a couple of lovely outdoor spaces where we sat and enjoyed the autumn sun. We also decided, on the spur of the moment, to treat the kids to a showing of Monsters vs. Aliens in the IMAX theatre there (which boasts the biggest screen in the world..... ) It was a tad loud for my liking but gots lots of giggles from the kids which meant it was a HIT!

Isaac loved these music boxes.... when you stepped on the lids they played a note (rather like a very large xylophone). He felt the need to put them into order and try to play a tune!!! Love it.....

Viewing an ant colony from inside a perspex bubble..... fascinating little things they are too.... kids and ants that is.......

Evie loved the beautiful animal sculptures... here she is loving the echidna.... :0)
